Hello, I'm Kirsten!
I'm a visual artist and illustrator currently based in Cape Town, South Africa. At the moment I divide my time between having exhibitions of my personal work, doing commercial illustration and making children's picture books.
Please feel free to contact my representative gallery,  Salon91 in Cape Town, for any enquiries regarding the availability of original artwork, as well as upcoming exhibition dates. At this stage I am not selling digital reproductions of my work nor taking on private commissions.
Please note that all of the original artwork currently featured on this site is sold out.
For enquiries regarding illustration projects and commercial work please contact me directly at kirstysims@gmail.com. This includes illustration for advertising, editorial, corporate, merchandise, social media and picture book projects. I am of course open to discussing things that don't fall into those categories.
My Instagram account serves as my visual diary and is where I post snapshots of my day-to-day life and inspiration, work in progress, and silly little doodles.
I don't always see messages on my Instagram, Facebook or Behance accounts so I prefer that you communicate with me via email.

Some FAQs
What medium do you work in? I predominantly work in acrylic and ink. Occasionally I'll use gouache or watercolour and sometimes I'll add collage elements and pencil marks to the mix too. Everything I do is by hand; I generally only use photoshop as a tool to crop and clean an image or to combine hand painted type and illustrative elements.
Are you an artist or an illustrator? I am both. My formal training is in Applied Design, specializing in Illustration but somewhere along the line I discovered that I really loved painting too. I find that the two avenues of working feed into each other.  I see myself as an illustrator who paints.
What/where did you study? I graduated with a BA in Applied Design, specializing in Illustration, at the Stellenbosch Academy of Design and Photography in 2011. In 2014 I completed an Honours degree in Illustration at the Stellenbosch University.

Kindly ask my permission first if you wish to share or feature any of my work online.
